The new millennium ushered in a time of "biorenaissance": a period of sweeping changes and dramatic advances in science, medicine, and technology. Biomedical researchers were unlocking the power of human stem cells and with it, raising hopes for new treatments for a host of debilitating and deadly diseases. But this medical breakthrough also unleashed fears and sparked an ongoing political and moral controversy. Hear from a doctor at the forefront of stem cell research as he explains the scientific advances in the field, the court rulings regarding federal funding, and the most promising developments from prestigious research institutes including the University of Minnesota.
