Project Control and Closure

Learn the steps for successfully controlling and closing a project

Project control is the element of a project that keeps it on-track, on-time, and within budget. Project control begins early in the project with planning and ends late in the project with post-implementation review, having a thorough involvement of each step in the process.

Once a project has been completed, the manager's duties turn from control to closing. During closing, stakeholders must be notified, the project needs to be formally accepted, resources released, file archived, evaluations completed, and reports generated.

This course describes strategies for project managers to control a project successfully and refreshes the sustainable approach developed during project controlling. It also provides an overview of closing, an often-overlooked component of a project's lifecycle.

Following this course you will be able to:

• Manage integrated change against established baselines: scope, schedule, and budget
• Manage human resources and conduct project performance reporting
• Carry out risk monitoring and control
• Maintain the project database to benefit from on-going lessons learned
• Summarize and classify previously documented lessons learned, including causes of activities leading to schedule changes, types of schedule changes, reasons for selecting specific corrective actions, and classification of schedule change causes for further analysis
• Implement transition activities to return resources to parent organization
