Preparing for the PCAT

Session 1 (July 20): Full PCAT exam proctored by instructors. Bring at least three #2 pencils with erasers. Distribution of syllabus and materials. Session meets from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Session 2 (July 27): Review of PCAT exam taken in Session 1. Discussion of PCAT anatomy: Writing, verbal, biology, chemistry, reading comprehension, and quantitative ability. Verbal: Review of word structure and roots as tested in the verbal portion of the PCAT. Introduction to chemistry, including: atomic structure, Periodic table, and bonding. Introduction to math, including: laws, fractions, order of operations, and scientific notation. Biology introduction: Cell biology, respiration, reproduction, genetics.
Session 3 (August 3): Writing: In-class work to generate two written essays on two disparate topics followed by discussion. Biology: animal behavior, ecology, microbiology. Chemistry: stoichiometry, kinetics, equilibrium, and thermochemistry. Math: review of Algebra and Geometry.
Session 4 (August 10): Verbal: review of analogies, vocab, and word structure. Chemistry: review of gases, phases, solutions and acid/base. Math: review of probability and statistics. Biology Anatomy Part 1: general anatomy, neuro and muscles.
Session 5 (August 17) Reading comprehension and essay writing practice. Chemistry: review of redox and organic chemistry. Math: review of precalculus and trigonometry. Biology Anatomy Part 2: endocrine, cardiovascular and skeletal systems.
Session 6 (August 24): Verbal: review of vocabulary and analogies. Biochemistry chemistry and calculus reviews. Biology: review of GI and nutrition topics. Course conclusion and parting advice.
